Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential move for midfielder Bruno Fernandes this month.
The Red Devils, along with Tottenham Hotspur, expressed keen interest in completing a deal for the Portuguese over the summer, but the former ultimately decided against making a bid.
However, following injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has placed strong emphasis on signing a midfielder over January.
According to O Jogo, United are preparing a proposal for the Sporting captain, who is said to be valued at £60m.
Having turned down a move elsewhere in the summer, Fernandes signed a new long-term contract with Sporting until 2023, giving the latter a stronger hand in negotiations.
Reports have claimed that United are also keen on doing a deal for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek over the next few weeks.
