Manchester United are reportedly growing increasingly confident of agreeing a deal with Villarreal for centre-back Pau Torres.
The Red Devils are desperate to bring in a new long-term partner for Harry Maguire at the back, with doubts over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.
Torres is also believed to be high on Real Madrid's list of targets, though, and still has another three years to run on his Villarreal contract.
According to the Manchester Evening News, however, United have been quietly working on a deal for the 24-year-old and are making good progress in talks.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are said to be encouraged by their negotiations with the Yellow Submarine, with a possible player-plus-cash transfer having been discussed.
The report indicates that United are keeping all of their options open, with long-serving Madrid defender Raphael Varane believed to be another target.
