David Raya has confirmed his desire to leave Brentford this summer, amid links with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spaniard played every minute of the 2022-23 Premier League season, helping his side achieve a ninth-placed finish.

Raya has made 161 appearances during his four-year stint as a Brentford player, but he has been linked with a summer departure.

The goalkeeper has one year remaining on his current contract, and he has turned down Brentford's offers of an extension.

Man United have been linked with the 27-year-old, with uncertainty surrounding David De Gea's situation at Old Trafford.

There was an expectation that De Gea was set to extend his stay with the Red Devils, but he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been mooted as a potential destination, with Spurs looking to replace long-term number-one Hugo Lloris, who could be on the move.

Although Raya has entered the final 12 months of his deal, Brentford will only sanction a sale if their £40m asking price is met.

Raya, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea, is concerned that Brentford's asking price could put off potential buyers, with the Spain international pushing for an exit.

"I will always feel close to this team," Raya told The Times. "Being part of the promotion to the Premier League is something I will never forget. I know there are rumours about me leaving.

"There are some options for me to go but obviously Brentford are asking for a lot of money. That could make clubs not want to buy me, it could make them look somewhere else. But if that's the value they give me then it's up to them.

"I have a year left on my contract and until then I'm a Brentford player, there's nothing I can do. I have ambitions to make the next step in my career. I want to try to win titles and to compete in Europe in the next couple of years.

"I'm 27 now and I feel like I'm at the point in my career when I want to make that step up. There are options out there but it's not just my ambitions, the club also needs to let me go."

Raya went on to add: "I'm a professional. If I end up staying at Brentford I will always give my all, that's my job. If I have to stay, I'll try to have an even better season than last season."

Brentford have already moved to replace Raya, completing the £11m transfer of Netherlands international Mark Flekken from Freiburg.
