Manchester United remain interested in signing Diogo Costa next year despite the goalkeeper signing a new contract with Porto, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly still exploring the possibility of signing Diogo Costa next summer despite the goalkeeper recently signing a new deal at Porto.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Portugal international had penned a new contract with the Blue and Whites until June 2027, with the agreement including a release clause of €75m (£65.8m).

Man United have been strongly linked with the stopper in the opening months of this season, with the club believed to be considering signing a new number one for the 2023-24 campaign.

According to Nicolo Schira, the Red Devils are still interested in the 23-year-old, with scouts from the club preparing to monitor his performances for Portugal at the 2022 World Cup.

"I want to thank the president for this moment. The feeling is the same as last year. This is my home and I'm another one helping FC Porto to have as many titles as possible. I will always work, I will never change the way I am," Costa said upon signing his new contract.

"It is a huge honour for me to renew my contract with the club of my heart. I'm with the club looking for goals. That's why we work individually and collectively. What is there [the gloves with which he saved four penalties in the group stage of the Champions League] is the merit of the staff and the entire team.

"The collective, for me, is the most important. This profession demands responsibility, even more being in a club like this. It's a part of life and I'll be here to deal with it naturally."

The goalkeeper has been in strong form for Porto during the 2022-23 campaign, making 18 appearances in all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

The Portugal international came through the youth system at Estadio do Dragao, and he has now represented the Dragons on 86 occasions in all competitions.

David de Gea has again been Man United's number one stopper this term, but the Spaniard's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next June.

The 20-time English champions do have the option to activate an additional 12 months on the deal, but Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag recently refused to guarantee that the stopper would be penning an extension.

Martin Dubravka made his debut for the Red Devils in Thursday's 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the EFL Cup, but he is expected to return to parent club Newcastle United next summer.

Tom Heaton is also out of contract next June, meanwhile, and Dean Henderson - currently on loan at Nottingham Forest - could leave the club on a permanent basis ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
