Manchester United reportedly want to tie Alejandro Garnacho down to a new eight-year contract, which would be the longest in the club's history.

Manchester United reportedly want to tie Argentine starlet Alejandro Garnacho down to the club's longest-ever contract.

The former Atletico Madrid starlet is enjoying a breakthrough campaign under Erik ten Hag and is supposedly catching the eye of clubs across Europe.

Garnacho is only under contract at Old Trafford for another 18 months, although the Red Devils do possess the option to trigger an extension until the summer of 2025.

Garnacho and Man United are currently locked in talks over a new contract, and the 18-year-old has supposedly turned down the chance to sign a new £20,000-a-week deal.

However, talks between the two parties are now understood to have yielded a positive solution, and Garnacho will supposedly agree to a £30,000-a-week contract to stay at the club.

With discussions ongoing over the length of Garnacho's new terms, The Mirror claims that Ten Hag's side want to hand the teenager the longest-ever contract in the club's history.

The report claims that Man United are keen to tie Garnacho down for the next eight years until 2031 - by which time he will be 27 - but the attacker's representatives are not on board with the idea.

Instead, Garnacho's entourage are apparently requesting a four-year offer, and his advisors have also pushed for a salary increase to £40,000 a week, which Man United are unlikely to sanction.

However, the Red Devils are not worrying about the prospect of losing Garnacho, who has been linked with Champions League holders Real Madrid alongside a possible return to Atletico.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also thought to be keeping tabs on the Argentina Under-20 international's future, although their interest has supposedly cooled following the Gunners' signing of Leandro Trossard and the Blues' capture of Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Garnacho left Atletico in 2020 to join the Red Devils' youth system, and the youngster has since amassed five goals and two assists in 16 matches for the club in all competitions.

The Argentine has earned minutes in each of Man United's last seven Premier League games, scoring a last-gasp winner against Fulham and setting up strikes against Bournemouth and Manchester City in that time.

While Man United are fighting tooth and nail to keep Garnacho at the club, Facundo Pellistri could supposedly be on his way out this month after struggling to force his way into Ten Hag's plans.

A separate report has claimed that Flamengo are close to signing the Uruguay international on loan, despite Ten Hag's best efforts to keep him at the club.

Man United sit third in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's trip to league leaders Arsenal, who are eight points clear of the Red Devils with a game in hand.
