Manchester United have downplayed rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to Sporting Lisbon.
The forward is believed to be keen to leave United in a bid to play Champions League football this season, but finding a new club has proved to be difficult.
A number of clubs - including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid - have turned down the opportunity to sign the 37-year-old.
However, a recent report suggested that Ronaldo was on the verge of completing a return to Sporting after leaving the Portuguese side in 2003 to join United.
Despite rumours speculating about a return to Sporting, according to The Mirror, the Red Devils have reiterated their stance that Ronaldo will not be leaving the club.
Ronaldo has started just one of United's opening three Premier League games, but Erik ten Hag still maintains that the Portugal international is a key player for the club.
