Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is reportedly leaning towards staying at the club this summer after receiving first-team assurances from manager Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is reportedly increasingly likely to stay at the club beyond deadline day.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship and has been tipped to leave again in search of regular first-team football in 2023-24.

A number of clubs are thought to be interested in his signature, with Sevilla, Anderlecht and unnamed parties in England having been linked with moves.

Hannibal is yet to feature for Man United so far this season, with Erik ten Hag leaving him out of every matchday squad to date.

However, The Mirror reports that the Tunisia international has held talks with the manager and is now leaning towards staying at Old Trafford for at least the first half of the season.

Ten Hag is said to have offered Hannibal assurances that he will be involved in the first team this season, with Man United having to juggle the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup and FA Cup over the course of the campaign.

The player is thought to be happy with Ten Hag's plans for him this season and will therefore stay and fight for his place at the club.

Manchester United brought in Mason Mount, who plays in a similar position to Hannibal, earlier this summer, while the imminent arrival of Sofyan Amrabat and Ten Hag's confirmation that Scott McTominay will also be staying at the club will further increase competition for midfield places.

The Red Devils currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, having won two and lost one of their opening three games this season.

The three-time European champions also have a return to the Champions League to look forward to, having been drawn in Group A alongside Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
