Fabio Coentrao close to Manchester United switch?

A Portuguese publication claims that Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao is nearing a six-month loan switch to Manchester United.

Manchester United are reportedly close to securing the services of Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao on a six-month loan deal.

Manager David Moyes recently insisted that he had no plans to sign the Portuguese international, who has made just four appearances for Los Blancos in all competitions this season.

However, Diario de Noticias has claimed that talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with an agreement expected to be reached in the near future.

It is thought that United have stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old following Moyes's revelation that senior left-back Patrice Evra is currently struggling with a knee injury.

United attempted to recruit Coentrao back in August, but they could not complete the paperwork before the deadline passed.
