Barnsley to offer permanent deal to John Rooney

Barnsley manager Keith Hill reveals that he is planning to offer a permanent contract to the brother of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill has said that John Rooney will move to Oakwell on a permanent deal, after impressing during a month-long trial at the club.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who is the brother of Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney, is a free agent following his release from American outfit Orlando City.

"John Rooney is going to sign with us until the end of the season," Hill told the Barnsley Chronicle.

"He's worth taking a punt on and we can develop him. I'm not sure how long it will take for the international clearance to come through."

Rooney's move is unlikely to be completed ahead of Saturday's game at Charlton Athletic.
