Arsenal reportedly join Manchester United in the race to sign Krylia Sovetov striker Aleksandr Sobolev ahead of next summer.

Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Krylia Sovetov striker and Manchester United transfer target Aleksandr Sobolev ahead of next summer.

The forward has emerged on the radar of several top clubs after topping the goalscoring charts in the Russian Premier League this season, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances.

According to The Sun, Arsenal have also established interest in Sobolev, sending scouts to watch him score a brace in a 2-0 win over PFC Sochi.

Reacting to United and Arsenal's interest in him, the 22-year-old told Sport Express: "I was told after the Sochi game that Arsenal scouts came to see me. In my opinion this is true. I am not 100 per cent sure, but this is what I was told.

"They said that the scouts were sitting in the stand. Manchester United's interest? I can't even imagine how this could be."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in desperate need for reinforcements up front following a miserable start to the Premier League season which has seen United score more than once on just one occasion over the last 14 games.

Many have criticised the United board for dispensing with and failing to replace attacking duo Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez over the summer.
