Sports Mole picks out three central midfielders that Manchester United could sign this summer.

Manchester United have already agreed a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, while the club are said to be negotiating with Real Madrid for Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils are still allegedly looking to strengthen in other areas this summer, though, with a new right-back and a new central midfielder potentially arriving at Old Trafford.

The speculation surrounding Paul Pogba's future continues to gather pace, but it is thought that Man United will move for a midfielder in the current market even if the Frenchman stays at the club.

Scott McTominay and Fred are certain to stay at Old Trafford this summer, but there remains speculation surrounding the futures of Donny van de Beek and also Nemanja Matic, with the latter recently being linked with a move to Leicester City.

Here, Sports Mole picks out three central midfielders that the 20-time English champions could attempt to sign during this summer's transfer window.


Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes)

Widely regarded as one of the best young talents in European football, Eduardo Camavinga has already played 82 times for Rennes, but it is difficult to imagine him staying with the Ligue 1 outfit for too much longer.

The 18-year-old's current deal is due to expire next summer, and a recent report claimed that Man United were planning to meet with the midfielder's representatives to discuss a switch to Old Trafford.

There is serious competition for the Frenchman's signature, with Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid all said to be admirers, but the Red Devils appear to be in a strong position to sign him.

Already capped on three occasions by France, there is no question that Camavinga is a serious talent, and he would represent a long-term investment for the 20-time English champions, who have switched their transfer policy to signing youngsters with potential rather than established stars.

Rennes will have to sell the youngster this summer if he does not sign a new contract, and there does seem to be an opportunity there for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to secure a deal.


Marcelo Brozovic (Inter Milan)

Marcelo Brozovic's contract with Inter Milan is due to expire next summer, and it has been claimed that Man United are preparing to launch a £26m offer for the central midfielder.

Brozovic was a key player for the Italian champions during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring twice and providing seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

The 28-year-old also represented Croatia on four occasions at Euro 2020 and certainly has the experience to make him an appealing signing for Man United, but Barcelona are also said to be monitoring developments.

Brozovic has scored 25 times and registered 32 assists in 242 outings for Inter, while he boasted a pass success rate of almost 90% across 33 Serie A outings during the 2020-21 campaign, which is an indication of what he would bring to the Red Devils if he were to arrive during this summer's transfer window.

Declan Rice enjoyed a brilliant 2020-21 campaign for West Ham United, and he has also been in fine form for England during this summer's European Championship.

The 22-year-old is said to be admired by the likes of Chelsea, Man United and Manchester City, but the Hammers are allegedly not prepared to entertain offers of under £100m for the holding midfielder.

Rice is believed to have rejected two offers of a new contract at the London Stadium, though, and it would not be a surprise if his head had been turned by the recent speculation.

Man United would have to pay a large sum to secure the Englishman's signature, but he could well be a constant in the middle of their midfield for the next 10 years, which makes him a very attractive option.

West Ham have Rice on a deal until June 2024, meaning that the capital club are not under any pressure to sell over the next 12 months, but it would be very interesting to see what happened if the 20-time English champions approached the Hammers with a large offer ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
