James Wilson brace leads Manchester United to win

Teenage striker James Wilson scores two goals on his Manchester United debut to help the team to a 3-1 win over Hull City.

Two goals from debutant James Wilson have led Manchester United to a 3-1 win over Hull City in the Premier League this evening.

The home side wanted an early penalty when Adnan Januzaj was brought down in the box following a Maynor Figueroa challenge, but the referee was not interested in their shouts.

The visitors had a chance in the opening 15 minutes when Robert Koren slid the ball forward for Shane Long, but Chris Smalling was able to clear before the striker could get his shot away.

The hosts were forced into an early change when Phil Jones appeared to pick up a shoulder injury less than 20 minutes in, bringing Nemanja Vidic on during his final home match with the club.

United broke the deadlock with just over half an hour gone as Marouane Fellaini played Wilson in on his senior debut, allowing the 18-year-old to smash the ball in.

Januzaj had a chance to double Ryan Giggs's side's lead early in the second half with a shot from the edge of the box, but Eldin Jakupovic was able to deny him.

United continued to dominate, and were able to add a second goal when Jakupovic denied Fellaini, only for Wilson to pounce on the rebound and claim his second of the game.

However, the visitors responded quickly, as Matty Fryatt found himself in space just outside the box drilling the ball into the bottom corner to keep the Tigers in contention.

David Meyler came close to getting Hull back on level terms inside the final 10 minutes as he tried to force the ball in from the edge of the penalty area, but David de Gea made the save.

Robin van Persie, who had come on as a substitute during the second half, tried to put the result beyond doubt with a curling effort late on, but his finish was just wide.

However, the Dutchman did manage to find United's third with just three minutes left when Giggs played the ball through for Van Persie to drive into the bottom corner.

The result leaves United seventh in the Premier League table, while Hull sit 15th.
