Wayne Rooney: I can be "main striker" for Manchester United

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney believes that he can be the club's "main striker" for the 2015-16 Premier League season.

Wayne Rooney has insisted that he can play the role of "main striker" for Manchester United during the 2015-16 Premier League season.

The captain scored 12 goals for Louis van Gaal's side last season, but often played in midfield for the Old Trafford side.

The England international said at a press conference: "The main striker is a position I think I can score goals from. I'm ready to take that mantle on and try to be the one to score the goals for us.

"I have no personal targets. I am working on getting fit and ready for the start of the season. I have never been one to set personal targets. I just want to help the team."

Man Utd play Barcelona in the pre-season International Champions Cup this weekend.
