Louis Van Gaal: 'It's my job to choose Manchester United's shape'

Louis van Gaal insists that he can't take into account the opinions of all of Manchester United's 600 million fans in the wake of some protests about the team's formation.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has suggested that he will not be swayed by the protests of some fans who want him to deploy a different formation.

Van Gaal has preferred to play with five defenders while employing wing-backs, but had to make changes to that system to overcome Queens Park Rangers this weekend in a move that pleased a contingent of United fans at Loftus Road.

"I have to look at the players, I have to communicate with the players and observe the players," said Van Gaal, according to The Mirror.

"I can't observe the fans because Manchester United have 600 million fans all over the world. You can't take into account 600 million opinions.

"To look at the players, to communicate with the players, to observe, to analyse and so on. That's my job as a manager. Before this match I've thought about this shape and to play it.

"Then I look to my players in a training session, I look to my game plan and then I choose and that depends, also, from what I see at the training ground."

The Dutchman's United side currently hold fourth spot in the Premier League table.
