Ryan Shawcross hails Chris Smalling's progress

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling will go on to play for England for the next decade, according to Ryan Shawcross.

Ryan Shawcross has tipped Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling to "play for England for 10 more years".

Last season there were suggestions that the 25-year-old's future at Old Trafford was in doubt, but so far this term he has been lauded by pundits as one of United's best players.

Speaking about the defender's progress, Stoke City's Shawcross has tipped Smalling to also become a key member of the England squad.

"Chris Smalling over the last six months has come on leaps and bounds. He looks like a top centre-half. I think he will go on to play for England for 10 more years," he told Stretty News.

To date, Smalling has been capped on 20 occasions by the Three Lions at senior international level.
