Wayne Rooney: 'We can beat Arsenal'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that this weekend's clash with Arsenal is the perfect opportunity to gain ground on the league leaders.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has insisted that his side is capable of defeating Arsenal when they meet them in the Premier League this weekend.

The England international believes that the Old Trafford clash represents the perfect opportunity for his team to gain ground on the league leaders.

"We're obviously capable of beating Arsenal," he told reporters. "We've done it many times in the past.

"They're on a good run of form at the moment and they're top of the league, so we know it's going to be a difficult game.

"But we have to go into it with confidence and a belief this is when we can edge closer to them and bring us back into the mix of being at the top of the league."

United go into the game in eighth place in the league table, eight points behind the Gunners.
