Argentina legend Juan Roman Riquelme has revealed that the biggest regret of his career was turning down a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
The playmaker spent a memorable spell at Villarreal, where he became a target for then United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, but ultimately decided against a move to Old Trafford to remain in Spain.
"The only thing I regret in my career was a decision that I took, when at the hotel in England before the semi-final with Arsenal, when Manchester United came to buy me and I said no," the now-retired Riquelme told Mundo Deportivo.
"I stayed at Villarreal, because I was very comfortable with my teammates."
Riquelme made 51 caps for Argentina, scoring 17 goals in the process.
