Redknapp in "disbelief" after Man Utd defeat

Harry Redknapp reveals that the Tottenham Hotspur bench was in "a state of disbelief" after their team lost 3-1 to Manchester United.

Harry Redknapp has said that the Tottenham Hotspur bench was in "a state of disbelief" after their team lost 3-1 to Manchester United.

Two second-half goals from Ashley Young followed Wayne Rooney's first-half opener to put the champions 3-0 up at White Hart Lane.

Jermain Defoe grabbed an 87th-minute consolation goal for Spurs, who now trail the Red Devils by 11 points.

However, Redknapp said that he was pleased with the performance of his players despite the loss.

"You need a bit of luck whatever you do," said Redknapp. "They are a great side and today we didn't have it.

"I've been in games where I've come away and thought 'how have we won that game?' - I'm sure Alex must think the same tonight; I've never seen him up off the bench as much as he was today because things weren't going right for him.

"There was an absolute sense of disbelief on the bench. I couldn't believe we were finding ourselves two and then three goals down. If they are battering you then that is fine but that wasn't the case, we were the better team today."

Spurs travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
