Manchester United defender Rafael admits that he is flattered to be compared to Gary Neville, but believes he is still improving as a player.

Manchester United defender Rafael has admitted that he is flattered by the comparisons to former club captain Gary Neville.

Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that he believes the Brazilian can be as good as Neville after claiming a regular starting role in the side.

The 22-year-old admits that he is "grateful" to Ferguson for his chance in the side, but refused to let the plaudits go too far and keep a "clear head".

"To speak about a comparison with Gary Neville is too much," Rafael told The Sun.

"He is one of my idols and it's not easy to become as good as him. I came to improve and that is still happening.

"I am very grateful to the manager for my chance but I am keeping a clear head and do not consider myself to be a star."

Rafael moved to Old Trafford with his brother Fabio in 2008 from Brazilian side Fluminense.
