Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino praises his side's performance during their goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has praised his side's performance during their 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening.

The Saints went into the match having lost 5-2 at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur just four days previously, but they held Jose Mourinho's side to a stalemate to end 2017 on a higher note.

Southampton remain winless in their last seven outings, but Pellegrino was encouraged by their performance and is hopeful of producing similar displays in the coming weeks.

"I think we were solid and we had our moments in the game. I think United had moments where they were uncomfortable on the pitch and we played really well," he told reporters.

"I think we can use this performance as an example for the next game. Today I think our positioning was good and we did very well.

"It's not just the point that is important, it is important the way we play today and we have possibility to bounce back from difficult moments. This month was really difficult. We had injuries and troubles so I'm happy we bounced back from that. This is good news for us."

Southampton will end the year sitting 13th in the Premier League table, although only two points separate them from the relegation zone.
