Michael Owen: Timing of David Moyes sacking "absolutely right"

Michael Owen believes that the lack of faith in David Moyes meant that Manchester United had little choice but to sack the Scot.

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes that the club made the correct decision in parting company with David Moyes earlier today.

The 50-year-old was less than 12 months into his six-year contract at Old Trafford, but with the team seventh in the Premier League table and out of all the cup competitions, he was relieved of his duties.

With their faith no longer in Moyes and money to spend on new players during the summer, Owen has insisted that the board were "absolutely right" to call time on the Scot's tenure.

"Huge news at Old Trafford but with the summer looming and a huge transfer kitty available, United had to be 100% Moyes was the right man," he wrote on Twitter. "Evidently they didn't have the confidence in him in which case makes the timing absolutely right. Now the big question is who's next?"

Louis van Gaal is the current favourite with the bookmakers to fill the void.
