Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that his side deserved their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
Clear chances were few and far between for the most part at Old Trafford, but the game began to open up in the final 20 minutes and Romelu Lukaku hit the post before Anthony Martial scored the only goal of the match.
The goal was Martial's fourth of the season off the bench, and Mourinho suggested that the France international is more effective as a sub rather than when starting matches.
"That was difficult, it could have been a draw. Both teams were trying to win but both knew the opponent was strong. Apart from Dele Alli's chance, we controlled them well. It was tactically difficult for both and it was well refereed. It was strong, aggressive. We knew if we had one defensive mistake we could lose and that's what happened to them," he told Sky Sports News.
"We tried and we deserved the victory. We all feel we have to win every match so that's why I felt disappointed at Huddersfield. It looked like we didn't know that every point is a precious point. Today, every ball looked like the last ball of their careers.
"Sometimes [Martial] starts the match and his contribution is good but he doesn't score. I don't understand some reactions when people question 'are they Red Devils'? The two strikers were up against amazing central defenders. some of the best in Europe. Martial scores with a bad shot, but the bad shots can be the most beautiful. To play well against a very, very good team feels even better."
United have now kept a clean sheet in each of their first five home league games for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.
