Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes that Romelu Lukaku's quick goalscoring start to life at the club can only be good for his confidence.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that it is "important" for Romelu Lukaku to be scoring in pre-season after he once again found the net during this evening's 3-0 win over Valerenga.

Lukaku has now scored three times in a United shirt since his £75m move from Everton, netting against Real Salt Lake, Manchester City and Valerenga as he continues his preparations for the new season.

Mourinho admitted that he does not mind who gets the goals, but believes that Lukaku's confidence can only be growing with his quick start to life at the club.

"It's nice. You know strikers, they like to score goals. It's not important for me but probably it's important for him. It's important for his confidence and for his self-esteem," he told reporters.

"Strikers like to score goals; us managers, many times we are happy with them even when they don't score, because of the way they participate in the team organisation and game plans. But, for them, to score their goals is always important."

United will complete their pre-season preparations against Sampdoria on Wednesday before taking on Real Madrid in the European Super Cup.
