Jose Mourinho 'expects to sign Manchester United contract by Friday'

Jose Mourinho reportedly expects to sign a contract confirming him as Manchester United's new manager by Friday.

Jose Mourinho will sign a contract to become the new manager of Manchester United by Friday, according to reports.

The former Chelsea boss has been in negotiations with the club since Tuesday, and is understood to have agreed both his salary and the length of his contract.

However, the talks will now go into a third day due to hold-up regarding image rights, with a number of issues still to be resolved.

Mourinho's commercial deal with Jaguar could come into conflict with Manchester United's long-standing partnership with General Motors, while Chelsea also still own the name of their former boss as a trademark.

United could be forced to pay out a six-figure sum to the Blues in order to overcome that latter point, but neither issue is expected to scupper the deal.

More negotiations between the two parties will take place tomorrow, but Sky Sports News reports that Mourinho is expecting to sign a contract by Friday at the latest.

The 53-year-old, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December, will succeed Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford after the Dutchman saw his two-year tenure ended on Monday.
