Manchester United deal stalls because Chelsea still own Jose Mourinho's name

Jose Mourinho's move to Manchester United reportedly stalls as Chelsea still own their former manager's name as a trademark.

Jose Mourinho's proposed move to Manchester United has reportedly stalled because Chelsea still own the manager's name as a trademark.

It emerged last night that Mourinho had agreed his salary and the length of his contract at Old Trafford, having been linked with the post since being sacked by Chelsea in December.

However, negotiations over image rights are still ongoing, with United concerned that Mourinho's commercial deal with Jaguar could come into conflict with their long-running partnership with General Motors.

It has now emerged that United may also be forced to pay Chelsea a six-figure sum due to the fact that the London club still own the 'Jose Mourinho' name as a trademark.

The issue is not expected to scupper the proposed deal, but negotiations will now go into a third day, with Mourinho unlikely to be officially unveiled as the club's new manager until Thursday at the earliest.

The 53-year-old will succeed Louis van Gaal in the Old Trafford hotseat after the Dutchman was sacked by the club earlier this week.
