Rene Meulensteen denies that he has left his role as first-team coach at Manchester United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has denied reports that he has left the club following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

It has been suggested that the 49-year-old decided against being part of the club's new era under incoming manager David Moyes after a six-year stint as part of Ferguson's backroom staff.

"So far I will report on July 1," Meulensteen told Dutch magazine ELF Voetbal. "I am still under contract at the club. I didn't step down, and also I was not sacked by Manchester United. I am still employed."

Despite Meulensteen's position at Old Trafford, assistant boss Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele have left the club.
