Manchester United reportedly decided not to pursue a move for Antonio Conte due to the Italian's budget demands.
The Red Devils have lost four of their last six Premier League games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is facing a highly uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Conte was originally regarded as the favourite to take over at Man United, but the ex-Chelsea and Inter Milan coach has since taken the reins at Tottenham Hotspur.
According to The Mirror, Conte wanted a £250m transfer kitty for the next two windows at Man United, which Red Devils chiefs deemed "unacceptable".
The report adds that Zinedine Zidane is also unlikely to take over due to similar demands, with current Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers now deemed the frontrunner.
A number of senior players at Man United are allegedly hoping to see Solskjaer sacked as the Red Devils languish in sixth in the Premier League table.
