Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: 'I trust Ed Woodward'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists that he trusts chief executive Ed Woodward after failing to sign Pedro.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has defended chief executive Ed Woodward's record in the transfer market.

The Red Devils were expected to sign Pedro from Barcelona this week before the winger decided to join Chelsea.

United also missed out on Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi, who moved to rivals Manchester City from Valencia.

Supporters on social media have questioned Woodward's ability to close out deals, but Van Gaal believes that he is the right man to handle the club's transfer business.

"I have the idea you want to separate Ed Woodward with me. Never, because every day I am updated by him, and I trust him," the Dutchman told reporters at his weekly press conference.

"I don't think [the fans] have to doubt Ed Woodward because he has proven already for many, many years he is the right person at the right spot."

United are back in action tomorrow when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League.
