Manchester United will contest manager Jose Mourinho's FA charge for using abusive, insulting or improper language.

Mourinho is alleged to have uttered an offensive phrase into a TV camera following his side's rousing comeback against Newcastle United earlier this month.

The 55-year-old was rumoured to be on the verge of the sack and saw his side fall two goals behind at home to the winless Magpies, before scoring three times in the final 20 minutes to complete the turnaround.

On the way down the touchline after the match, Mourinho is understood to have mouthed the phrase "fodas filhos de puta", which translates into English as 'fuck off sons of bitches'.

However, United have contested the charge after being given an extension until this evening to respond to the allegations.

If United's appeal is unsuccessful then it could result in Mourinho serving a touchline ban.
