Ryan Giggs: "Managerial situation will be sorted next week"

Manchester United interim boss Ryan Giggs reveals that the club's new manager could be in place by next week, with Louis van Gaal the favourite to take the position.

Manchester United interim boss Ryan Giggs has revealed that the club's new manager could be in place by next week.

Giggs ended his spell in temporary charge with a 1-1 draw against Southampton, leaving United in seventh place to end the season after taking seven points from their final four games.

Louis van Gaal is the overwhelming favourite to be named as the Red Devils' next permanent manager, and Giggs admitted that he still has not decided whether he wants to continue playing.

He told BBC Sport: "It's been an experience with ups and downs. I've enjoyed it and I didn't want the second half to end. The fans were great and the players were great and I loved it.

"I will decide within the next week [what I do], the managerial situation will be sorted in the next week and I need to have a think about what I will do."

United's seventh-placed finish was their lowest since the formation of the Premier League.
