West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster: 'Life at Manchester United wasn't for me'

Goalkeeper Ben Foster - now at West Bromwich Albion - says that life at Manchester United 'wasn't for him' due to his commitments off the pitch.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed that he did not enjoy the demands which came with representing a high-profile club in Manchester United.

Foster has spent the last eight years of his career in the West Midlands with Birmingham City and current club West Bromwich Albion but between 2005 and 2010, the former England stopper was contracted to United.

However, Foster - who made 23 appearances in all competitions - says that he struggled to cope with the lack of balance between United and his family due to the commitments with the North-West giants.

The 35-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It was probably the wrong time for me. I was starting out with a young family, I had a toddler and a two-year-old. I'm a very family-orientated person anyway.

"With a team like Man Utd they're always in the latter stages of cup competitions so there's a game every three or four days. You spend a lot of time travelling, in hotels. It just wasn't for me.

"You can appreciate these players at the top level, what they have to go through. A lot is asked of them."

Foster - who returns to Old Trafford with the Baggies on Sunday afternoon - has recently claimed that he will remain at The Hawthorns even if West Brom are relegated to the Championship.
