Darren Fletcher: 'Scott McTominay is Manchester United's leader'

Darren Fletcher hails Scott McTominay as a "leader" following Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Darren Fletcher has hailed Scott McTominay as a "leader" following Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night.

McTominay, playing alongside Paul Pogba in midfield, lashed home a superb strike into the top left corner on the cusp of half time to hand United the advantage.

Despite a largely poor second period from United, McTominay was once again praised for maintaining an impressive intensity and attacking intent until the final whistle.

Speaking about the game on talkSPORT, Fletcher said: "He looks like the first name on the team sheet. From the games I've seen, like Leicester, it was a bit flat and he went thundering into a tackle and got the crowd up.

"He's a little bit old school. He's got drive and he gets on the ball and doesn't hide.

"His goal was fantastic and he's starting to find his voice as well; you can see his arms pointing at people and different things like that. It's fantastic to see."

McTominay also often takes up media responsibilities after games and declared last night that the dressing room was "disappointed" by their performance against Unai Emery's side.

The 22-year-old was handed his senior debut against Arsenal in May 2017 under Jose Mourinho, who affectionately branded McTominay "The Kid" during his time at the club.
