Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson backs Wayne Rooney to start scoring sooner rather than later.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Wayne Rooney to find his form in front of goal sooner rather than later.

The striker has hit the net just twice in the Premier League this season, with one other goal coming in the Champions League.

"I think he's going through a period that all strikers do," Ferguson told reporters. "He's not scoring and it will change once he starts to score regularly."

Rooney is expected to feature for United when they travel to Reading in the league on Saturday.
