Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy insists that Harry Kane can "absolutely" win a trophy with Spurs, whose last piece of major silverware came back in 2008.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has boldly claimed that Harry Kane can "absolutely" win a trophy with the Lilywhites as speculation over his future continues to gather pace.

With the England captain set to turn 30 this summer without having won a single piece of silverware, he is once again being tipped to leave to fulfil his ambitions of glory elsewhere.

Since Levy blocked Kane from departing in 2021, Spurs have moved no closer to ending their silverware-less streak, which stands at 15 years since victory over Chelsea in the 2007-08 EFL Cup final.

Under Antonio Conte, Tottenham bowed out to AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, while their FA Cup and EFL Cup journeys ended in the fifth and third round respectively.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are expected to test Tottenham's resolve over Kane this summer, while perennial Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have apparently entered the race too.

Levy - a graduate of Cambridge University - recently returned to the institution's debating chamber, and he insisted that Kane could satisfy his yearning for trophies in North London.

"He can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs. But being a legend is also important. The fact that he's top scorer of Tottenham Hotspur; he's making history," Levy said. "I hope one day that there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.

"If you go back in history, Tottenham was a club that has a lot of history because it has won things. In recent times, it's not been where it needs to be. We're on a journey and we need to get better success on the pitch.

"But we have been in the Champions League a number of times and we almost got there, winning the ultimate, which would have been winning the Champions League."

As things stand, Kane will be able to leave Tottenham on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2024, and there has been little progress in talks over an extension.

With Levy currently scouring the managerial market for a new head coach, Kane is supposedly waiting until Conte's successor is appointed before re-entering discussions over a renewal.

In a blow to Bayern and PSG's hopes of a summer deal, Kane has already hinted that he wants to remain in the Premier League as he hunts down Alan Shearer at the top of the all-time goalscoring charts.

After becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer, Kane - who has 206 English top-flight strikes compared to Shearer's 260 and Wayne Rooney's 208 - confirmed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that he was gunning for his compatriot's Premier League record.

Kane's comments would seemingly put Man United in pole position for his signature, but Levy is reluctant to sanction a transfer to a direct rival, having regretted selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City in 2017.

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's trip to Champions League rivals Newcastle United, who are three points clear of Cristian Stellini's side in fourth place with a game in hand.
