Manchester United's Ashley Young "comfortable at left-back"

Manchester United winger Ashley Young says that he holds no qualms about playing at left-back.

Ashley Young has insisted that he is happy to play at left-back for Manchester United.

The 30-year-old has spent much of his career with Watford, Aston Villa, United and England operating as a winger.

However, in the absence of the injured Luke Shaw, manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that Young could be used in a more defensive position over the coming weeks and months.

When asked how he felt about that, Young told MUTV: "I'm a versatile player who can play [at left-back] as well as on the wing. I played there during the week in the cup and if the manager calls upon me to play there again I'll go out there and give 110% as I always do.

"I feel comfortable at left-back and playing wing-back. It's a different role for me compared to left wing or left midfield, there's more of the defensive side to think about but I'm capable of doing that. I felt comfortable and, as I said, if the manager picks me to play there I'll do everything I need to do."

Young was a second-half substitute during yesterday's 3-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
