Michail Antonio included in Sam Allardyce's first England squad

England boss Sam Allardyce names his first squad as manager, handing a debut call-up to West Ham United winger Michail Antonio.

England manager Sam Allardyce has included West Ham United winger Michail Antonio in his first squad in charge of the national team.

Allardyce, named as Roy Hodgson's successor following England's early Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland this summer, will oversee his first match as Three Lions boss in a World Cup qualifier against Slovakia next month.

Antonio could be in line for a debut having scored two goals in three Premier League appearances this season, while Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw returns after a year-long absence through injury.

Danny Drinkwater, Theo Walcott and Phil Jagielka are also recalled having missed out on Euro 2016, while Manchester City's Joe Hart, who has lost his place in the team at club level, is named amongst the goalkeepers.

Allardyce has so far remained quiet over who will be his captain, but record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is included in the squad, albeit classed as a midfielder.

The likes of Ross Barkley, Jack Wilshere and Jermain Defoe are among the names to miss out for the match in Trnava, which will take place on Sunday, September 4.

England squad to face Slovakia:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley)

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Michail Antonio (West Ham United), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)

Strikers: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
