Louis van Gaal confirms Luke Shaw absence

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirms that defender Luke Shaw will miss "the next few weeks" with an ankle injury.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed reports that left-back Luke Shaw will be absent until Christmas through injury.

Shaw was forced off after just 16 minutes of United's 2-1 victory at Arsenal last weekend, and reports emerged on Friday morning that the 19-year-old would be missing for six weeks.

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, the Dutch coach revealed that the defender would be absent for "the next few weeks", but would not confirm whether the ankle ligament problem would keep him out until 2015.

The England international has made seven appearances for United since moving to Old Trafford for £30m during the summer.
