Scott McTominay is unlikely to be available for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday, but Marcus Rashford should feature.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Scott McTominay is unlikely to be available for Saturday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, but Marcus Rashford should feature.

McTominay was absent for last weekend's 2-2 draw with Liverpool due to an injury problem, while Rashford was forced off against Jurgen Klopp's side in the second period.

Rashford did not take part in Wednesday's training session, leading to suggestions that he would be unavailable for the clash against the Cherries this weekend.

However, the England international was able to train on Thursday and has a strong chance of featuring in the squad against Andoni Iraola's side.

A final decision on McTominay is yet to be made, although Ten Hag has admitted that the Scotland international is highly unlikely to be available for selection in Saturday's late start.

Rashford set to hand Man United injury boost

"Scott: I don't think so," Ten Hag told reporters during his pre-match press conference. "We have a training session, so we have a day, he will push, he is so keen to be a part of it tomorrow, so it's very questionable.

"And then Rashford: Rashy trained yesterday, so how he recovered from it today, we have another training today and then we will make a decision on it."

Man United will be without four central defenders for this weekend's contest, with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans all on the sidelines.

Ten Hag has admitted that it has been "very difficult" to have to change his back four on a constant basis this season, with both first-team left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw also out.

"It's very difficult [to keep changing back four]. So everyone who has a little (emphasises little with hand gesture) bit of knowledge about football - a little - they know it will affect your results and performances," he said.

"Back four is always the foundation to get results. We didn't have that. But we still have to win, we know that, so then others have to take responsibility but when you oversee then you know it has a negative impact."

Four centre-backs are currently missing for Man United

Willy Kambwala is again set to feature alongside Harry Maguire in the middle of the defence on Saturday, as Man United bid to avoid losing twice to Bournemouth in the same league season for the first time in their history.

The Cherries won 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier this term, and Ten Hag admitted that his side "were mentally not ready" for the reverse game against Iraola's team.

"It was after a very good performance against Chelsea in the week. We were mentally not ready for that game. They battled us and we lost the battles. Tomorrow will not be different, that is the way they want to play," he added.

"They want to fight with you. So you go into that fight, have the conviction, the belief and you need to support each other to win battles, to outplay them, outrun them and defending to match the runs."

Man United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with the club facing a huge battle to qualify for next season's Champions League.
