Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will not play in his side's International Champions Cup match against Barcelona due to injury.
The German played in United's 3-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes, although his performance was criticised by the Red Devils manager.
Schweinsteiger has sustained a knock which will rule him out of the clash against the Catalan club as Van Gaal is not prepared to take the risk with the midfielder ahead of the new season.
He told reporters: "Schweinsteiger cannot play because he had a little injury.
"I never talk about the injury. I say only it is a minor issue and I don't take risks in preparation time. He shall not even play for 30 minutes."
United face Barcelona later today.
