Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson reveals that he is now back jogging, and hopes to get a few games in for the club before this season ends.

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has provided a positive update on his return from injury, revealing that he hopes to be back in action before the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has been out of action since the December 27 fixture against Manchester United, when he suffered a calf problem.

Eddie Howe has previously claimed that he is hopeful the striker will be back before the end of this season, and Wilson has talked up the prospect of featuring again in 2021-22.

"The injury is going in the right direction. I am jogging now, which is positive, (I am) increasing day by day, working harder, and ticking different boxes off," Wilson told the Footballer's Football podcast.

"You know how it is when you are going back for an injury. You have got to hit certain markers before you can go into the next stage of your rehab. So just building up that load really, and then, soon, the comeback will be there.

"I am hoping to get a few games in and, as I said previously, you want to score as a striker on your return. So I am working hard to hold on to that moment for when I do return to make sure that it's a positive one."

Wilson made 15 appearances in the Premier League this season prior to his injury, scoring six goals across those games.
