Manchester United's Luke Shaw given time off before Friday scan

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal confirms that Luke Shaw will undergo a scan on his broken leg this Friday.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Luke Shaw has been given time off from his rehab this week ahead of a scan on Friday.

The England international has been out of action since September after breaking his leg in two places during United's 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in Holland.

Shaw, who was given an initial layoff time of six months, has been stepping up his rehabilitation and was recently pictured without using crutches.

Van Gaal has opted to give the 20-year-old a few days off this week as he is "fed up" with his recovery work.

"It is going very good with him but it's also difficult for him because now the progress is not as much as in the beginning," Van Gaal told reporters.

"Now, sometimes, he is fed up with the situation and I can imagine that. So I give him now, for example, a few days off because I don't think the memories of PSV are good for him. I wondered if he was fed up because maybe it was the match against PSV and every player has to watch the game in the stadium to support their fellow players.

"So I have given him time off but, on Friday, he has a scan and then we will know more about the injury and how it is going."

United will go head to head with PSV at Old Trafford tomorrow night with the aim of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.
