Paul Scholes tipped for Euro 2012 call-up

Phil Jones and Chris Smalling back Paul Scholes for an England call-up.

Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes has been tipped for inclusion in England's Euro 2012 squad by two of his teammates.

Midfielder Phil Jones paid tribute to the forward and said that he would not be surprised if Fabio Capello's successor included him in the squad for the finals.

"It wouldn't surprise me," The Mirror quotes him as saying. "He came into the United team and everyone immediately looked to him, so I can't see why he couldn't do that with England.

"He's a terrific player. I remember playing in his testimonial at the start of the season. It was the first time I had played with him and I thought he was just unbelievable."

Defender Chris Smalling echoed his England teammate's sentiments, calling Scholes "unique" and praising his current form.

"He's unique," he said. "You can see when there are moments in the game when it is all rushed and he settles it down when he gets the ball.

"He has the ability to dictate. Come the summer, there may well be calls for him to be included in the squad and it will be because he is a player in great form.

"I'm sure any England manager would want him."
