Reports in Spain suggest that Raphael Varane will start in the Real Madrid defence for tonight's encounter against Manchester United.

Raphael Varane will reportedly be included in the Real Madrid starting lineup for this evening's Champions League clash against Manchester United.

Recent speculation had suggested that Portuguese centre-back Pepe would be given the nod by coach Jose Mourinho ahead of the French youngster.

However, there are question marks over Pepe's fitness levels following his recent ankle injury that required surgery to correct.

As a result, Mourinho has opted to start with 19-year-old Varane, according to reports in Spain.

Varane was reportedly a transfer target of United before he decided to join Los Blancos in the summer of 2011 from Lens.
