Paul Scholes: 'Anthony Martial not ready for Manchester United first team'

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes feels that 19-year-old striker Anthony Martial is nowhere near the level needed to succeed with the Red Devils.

Paul Scholes has suggested that young striker Anthony Martial is not mature enough to handle the responsibility of being Manchester United's primary goalscorer.

The Red Devils were held to a 0-0 draw by PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday in a result which could have fatal implications on their hopes of progressing from Group B in the Champions League.

The 19-year-old, a £36m deadline-day signing from AS Monaco, struck five goals early in his United spell, but has not found the net in any of his previous six and drew another blank last night.

"Attacking-wise, they just don't look a threat, they don't look good enough, they don't look like they can score goals," the former United midfielder told BT Sport.

"Martial, for me, he's still got a lot to prove goalscoring wise, he isn't a centre-forward where he lives for goals, he likes to play outside of the box, he likes to drift to the left wing, he doesn't look like he's bothered if he misses a chance, he doesn't look bothered if he scores a goal, where as a centre-forward, all you live for is scoring goals.

"He doesn't look that type of player to me, and maybe Manchester United need to go into the transfer market for one of them."

The French marksman has netted once in his previous 11 games for United.
