Reading sign George Evans from Manchester City

Reading complete the signing of 21-year-old Manchester City midfielder George Evans on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Reading have completed the signing of George Evans from Manchester City on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 21-year-old midfielder came through the ranks at City but made just one senior appearance for the club, with that coming against Sunderland in the League Cup earlier this season.

He has spent the majority of the current campaign on loan at Walsall, where he made 16 appearances and scored four goals before being recalled on Saturday.

Brentford were also thought to be interested in the youngster, who can also play in defence, but it is their Championship rivals Reading who have secured the deal.

"I am delighted we have secured the signing of George," Reading boss Brian McDermott told the club's official website.

"I saw him play for Walsall while I was scouting for Arsenal and we've followed him ever since. He is a great guy and a terrific young midfielder with great pedigree, and I'm sure he will become an even better player working in our environment at Reading."

Evans could make his debut for the Royals when they host Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
