Newcastle United are reportedly ready to rival Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy.

Newcastle United have reportedly made an offer to sign Real Madrid full-back Ferland Mendy.

The Magpies are in the market to strengthen their squad again during the January transfer window, having enjoyed a stellar first half of the season to catapult themselves into top-four contention.

Eddie Howe's side currently sit third in the Premier League table, just two points off champions Manchester City and nine behind leaders Arsenal ahead of Tuesday's match against the Gunners.

French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Newcastle have identified Mendy as a possible target to improve their squad as they look to secure Champions League football for next season.

The report claims that the North-East outfit have already made a "very big offer" for the France international, who has spent the last three-and-a-half years at the Bernabeu.

However, Newcastle could face competition for the left-back from Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and several other unnamed Premier League clubs.

Mendy has been Real Madrid's first-choice left-back this season, making 18 appearances across all competitions and starting 17 of those matches.

Real Madrid are understood to be open to keeping Mendy, whose contract does not expire until 2025, but would also consider a sale should a suitable offer arrive.

The 27-year-old has made 123 appearances in total for Madrid since joining from Lyon in 2019, helping the club to two La Liga titles and last season's Champions League crown.
