Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly tracking Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria ahead of this summer's transfer window.

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly tracking Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Pep Guardiola is considering bolstering his central midfield options this summer, particular due to the fact that club captain Fernandinho is yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring next month.

According to Sky Sports News, City are big admirers of Zakaria and enquired over his availability in last summer's transfer window.

Even if Fernandinho decides to stay for a further year at the Etihad Stadium, City may pursue a deal for the Swiss international, who is understood to be valued at around £35m.

Zakaria endured a difficult campaign with Gladbach this season, who finished the Bundesliga campaign in eighth place, and suffered with several issues with a recurring knee problem.

The 24-year-old made 25 league appearances for the German club this term, scoring once in a 2-2 draw against Stuttgart in January.
