Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has suggested that he would like to return to Benfica before the end of his career.

The 27-year-old was strongly linked with move away from the Etihad Stadium over the summer, however, the Citizens received no suitable bids for the Portugal international, who has since excelled for the Premier League leaders this term.

Silva has arguably been City's standout performer in Pep Guardiola's title-challenging side, scoring seven goals in 20 top-flight appearances.

The versatile midfielder recently hinted that he has no immediate plans to leave the Citizens and that he is keen to stay at the 'best club in the world' in the Premier League.

However, Silva has now be questioned about his long-term plans for the future and has suggested that he would like to play for Benfica again later in his career.

When asked by Portuguese newspaper A Bola if he plans to play or train again for Benfica, Silva said: "Training and presiding doesn't make sense. Play? No doubt, if they want me there."

Silva, who is out of contract at the Etihad in June 2025, is a product of Benfica's academy, but he only made three senior appearances for the Eagles before joining Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in August 2014.
