Arsenal are hit with an FA charge for "failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" during Saturday's defeat to Manchester City.

Arsenal have been charged with failing to control their players in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on New Year's Day.

The Gunners were on the wrong end of several controversial decisions by referee Stuart Attwell and VAR official Jarred Gillett, with Man City being awarded a penalty after Attwell was sent to look at the monitor for a foul by Granit Xhaka on Bernardo Silva.

Arsenal players proceeded to surround Attwell following the decision to send Gabriel Magalhaes off for two yellow card offences, and they eventually succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

The FA have now confirmed the charge, saying in a statement: "Arsenal FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its Premier League game against Manchester FC on Saturday [01/01/22].

"It is alleged that Arsenal FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 59th minute and the club has until Friday [07/01/22] to respond."

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale hit out at the "inconsistency" surrounding Attwell's decisions during the defeat to the champions, while Pep Guardiola admitted that the Gunners were the better side on the day.
