Manchester City could make a January bid for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, but only if manager Roberto Mancini can sell first.
Striker Carlos Tevez, who hasn't played for the club since September 2011, is thought to be close to a move to either AC or Inter Milan.
Full-back Wayne Bridge is also nearing a departure from the Etihad Stadium.
"De Rossi is a top player, like Yaya [Toure], but he plays for Roma, a top team, and he was born there. I don't know if he will leave," said Mancini.
"We could maybe bring someone in, but we need to sell."
De Rossi has reportedly been told by Roma that if he doesn't accept a new contract by Friday then he can leave the club.
